We, signers of this petition, are sicked and tired of seeing what has been dubbed "The Motorcycle Story" in Elftown user's houses. It may have been cute the first time, but after seeing it in every members' house, it gets more than a little tiring. However, we realize that by banning it completely it would limit people's freedom. Therfore we propose this solution: A wiki that has the motorcycle story is made and people who would normally post the thing in their house simply link to it or put a banner up in their house. They should also have the option to put it in their guestbook or diary.
Due to the fact that comments next to names take space we will be removing them. If you feel you must get your hate of the story off your chest then join one of the related wikis and leave your comment there, in addition to signing. Thank you!

We need a banner! Go submit your ideas here: The MSP Banner Contest

UPDATE!

This petition is now closed, since we have achieved our objective. The Motorcycle Story, along with all similar copy-pasted things, are now against the Uploading Art Rules. We will leave all the signatures up as a sign of how many people supported us, and thank you to you all. Here's the new rule:

G-5. No random copied writings in (descriptions of) houses.
Writing not your own is not allowed, unless someone wrote it especially for you (a friend).
Example: No copied stories, song-lyrics etc
Short quotes, or the likes, that don't exceed 4 phrases/lines/sentences are OK.
Copied questionnaires are allowed with a limit of 50 questions. Therefore choose your questions wisely.

Art on the Wiki
Writings
Copying writings to a wiki is OK, as long as you don't claim the material (the wikiname shouldn't suggest it either).
If the owner requests for it to be removed, it will be done so.
Questionnaires longer than 50 questions can be put in wikis as well. See for example questionnaires.

2006-03-28 [i6]: lol cina

2006-03-28 [i6]: wait wouldnt she get bugs in her face if she didnt have a helmet

2006-03-28 [Azuri]: yup they soooo did she had bugs all over her face XD

2006-03-28 [i6]: coming out of her ears even

2006-03-29 [Froya]: LOL, I love how you guys have twisted that horrid, annoying story into something humorous. XD

2006-03-29 [Azuri]: thats what happens when boredom strikes^_^

2006-03-29 [coehlo]: The story is crap, and I've noticed something, it's always the same type of person who has it on their house...... Cam whores who fall in love with anyone and everyone, people who try and tell us all how to love. Pathetic....Oh my love please take my helmet, for I cannot stop my bike, and she takes it ! What a bitch, well, he who gets a saddle from a prick on a motor bike, without a helmet, needs a slap.

2006-03-30 [Stray Kitty]: Who thinks we should start up a motorcycle story blacklisting?

2006-03-30 [Cina]: bwa hah! I think this is a good idea. Beware all who end up on the list..0.o

2006-03-30 [Stray Kitty]: So who wants to start that wiki?

2006-03-30 [Cina]: I can if you want.

2006-03-30 [Stray Kitty]: Alright. Just make sure to link it back to this page and the guy & girl one. I'll message you with the password.

2006-03-30 [Froya]: Wh00t, blacklisting! =)

2006-03-30 [Cina]: I created the wiki..The Motorcycle Story Blacklisting. I'll add it to the page when I get the password.

2006-03-31 [Kiddalee]: I think this place would apply to Take Elftown Back, non? Oh, and I'm going to support this movement in general in Great Bios.

2006-03-31 [Soul Assassin]: yay!!! i'm lovin the black list! coockies cake and tea to the mastermind behind that one ^.-

2006-04-03 [kittykittykitty]: I'll add it to take elftown back for you..

2006-04-07 [Kiddalee]: I just didn't think I had the authority to go do it myself.

2006-04-08 [kittykittykitty]: it's password protected ;)

2006-04-08 [Kiddalee]: Heh. Failed to notice.

2006-04-09 [iippo]: The REALITY of Things. :) Can I add it as a supporter-wiki?

2006-04-09 [Stray Kitty]: Yep.

2006-04-09 [Seamus Schwathe]: I love how fast this is filling up!

2006-04-10 [Soul Assassin]: it's pretty sweet

2006-04-10 [Kiddalee]: Alright, if you added The REALITY of Things, can I also add Stupid Pasted Things?

2006-04-11 [Stray Kitty]: Yep.

2006-04-11 [Kiddalee]: YaY!

2006-04-11 [Wilde Card]: Maybe there's such a thing as taking something too seriously? I'm with you all in thinking the story is over-used, cliched and rubbish.. but.. to see you all here, a few of you trying to apply logic to the story.. It has become a bit of an obsession, hasn't it? xD

2006-04-11 [Seamus Schwathe]: We're bored.

2006-04-11 [Wilde Card]: That's why I thought I'd pop by. I'm suffering the same.

2006-04-11 [Seamus Schwathe]: Sorry about that...

2006-04-11 [Wilde Card]: Nah, don't be. xD

2006-04-11 [iippo]: What bothers me with the story is the horrible unoriginality of the way it's spreading. If this was a real town, half of those people would be constantly breaking and entering each others' houses becasue they're all the same. This is a town for artists and writers and fantasy-lovers: people who have imagination! >.O I wouldn't be this arsed about the story if it was spreading in Elfpack or MySpace or something.

2006-04-11 [Wilde Card]: Mm, I do find it strange to find a lot of people who would be more comfortable in a Yahoo! chat room end up in ET.

2006-04-11 [iippo]: Maybe it's kind of a good thing they're here... They may get influenced by some creative people, learn something, etc... ET's gotten very big and it's influenced my life quite a lot, so hopefully some others will as well. If only they'd dare to break away from the masses... -_-

2006-04-11 [Wilde Card]: Or maybe we'll end up with a blending of both types of people.. I think that's already happening. To be blunt (and perhaps a little insensitive) I have a feeling the standard for mannerisms and such has lessened compared to when ET was first formed.

2006-04-11 [iippo]: That's true. People forget the fact that they are still interacting with other people. After all, there is such a thing as netiquette. I dunno, I was most shocked to be treated appaulingly by someone well over their 40s... An adult who doesn't know how to behave with other people?! What are her kids going to be like? It's because of the "anonymity". They think it's because they can't be "caught". It's very much like the book Lord of the Flies. No adults to keep watch so they'll all turn to savages... It's not really a town we're inhabiting here, it's a jungle. :/

2006-04-11 [Wilde Card]: The internet seems to dissolve a lot of the intracacies (sp xD oh dear) of interpersonal interaction. Yes, I have a desire for long words today. So, er.. let's get into character, eh? How r u don?/1! asl? That aside, it's difficult to really restrict membership without ET becoming clique-ish. On the flipside, without restriction it becomes mainstream. You can't really win either way. A fantasy theme can only dissaude people for so long. Then again, LotR was really popular in the cinema, wasn't it? It's the just in thing.

2006-04-11 [iippo]: I find it really odd that the "mainstream" people are in ET, because I still get called geeky when I try to explain my internet-affection to non-netter friends (and I deal with that). They even find the name of the place really gay (because it says 'elf'). And not that many people I know RL ever even watched LotR, or if they did, they got bored half-way. (Really, people tell me this!) Harry Potter was a popular film, but that's not so uberly fantasy that anyone would come over here just because of that. I just find it mystifying; maybe I'm blind to all the ways you can find ET. I came through EW, I know some people came through me, but other than that I can't imagine any other way.

2006-04-11 [Wilde Card]: I came from EW, actually. Glad to be rid of it. haha.. Well, this is the way of the internet. You can't stop it.

2006-04-11 [Metalelf]: Yeah, I've noticed that Elftown had changed a lot in terms of who joins up. When I came here (2003) it mostly contained either other Elfwood artists, or other people who weren't on EW but were still writers/artists of some description. But in just 3 years it's just become full of people who have no interest in anything creative whatsoever O_o Why do they even join up?

2006-04-11 [Wilde Card]: It's just another place to talk.

2006-04-11 [i6]: its infested with people trying to tell you how to love, annoying 10 year olds who pretend to be 18, and wiggers!!!

2006-04-11 [Wilde Card]: I'm not sure it's even that. It's more like people who copy and paste tidbits telling you how to love. xD .. and I wouldn't really label anyone as 'wigger'. That's short of applying more stereotypes.. what do you want? ET to become a little back-water town where the motto isn't "don't be an asshole", rather... "We don't like your type here."

2006-04-11 [i6]: hmmm your right

2006-04-11 [Akayume]: O.o

2006-04-12 [Stray Kitty]: Hrmm. There has to be som way to keep the little annoying people out. I would like it if I could report people who break some of the rules in my house and are borderline on breaking some of Elftown rules.

2006-04-12 [Wilde Card]: Well, I doubt ET will give support for personal rules.. imagine how many members we have? How would you decide who could make up rules for themselves and then how many? It would be quite difficult to maintain. I guess, when it comes down to it, organised groups like this one, are probably one of the ways to keep a semblance of how ET used to be. I just think it's slowly becoming a minority practice.

2006-04-12 [iippo]: What's a wigger? O_o

2006-04-12 [Cassave]: I think a wigger is a caucasian guy that behaves like, or tries to be like an Afro American hip hop person.

2006-04-12 [iippo]: Aaaa! In the spirit of "pretty fly for a white guy".

2006-04-12 [Cassave]: Indeed, the world needs wannabes...

2006-04-12 [Stray Kitty]: I haven't heard that term before. But what if some messages you and it's almost harrassment but not quite. Like for example if some guy messages me asking for my msn address and wants to cyber with me is that considered harrassment?

2006-04-12 [Wilde Card]: Yes, you can report that, I think. If you click on report user, it gives you a rundown of what ET considers reportable ====> Reports we want: Reports about people that send out insults or chain messages.

2006-04-12 [Stray Kitty]: Alright. I've reported all the people that chain messaged me. But there should be a way to keep people with no interest in fantasy and scifi off here. Like maybe requiring them to visit Elfwood.

2006-04-12 [Cina]: I've heard they're thinking of making a registration process. A short one, but effective enough to scare off the lazy ones who just join to cyber.

2006-04-12 [merihevonen]: Wow, that'd be awesome.  ^_^ then i wouldn't have to go through the bios of all the people who'd really belong in elfpack rather than here....  ( but then again, i think i'm one of them...  :p )

2006-04-12 [Stray Kitty]: Yes. Maybe they should have a membership test on the rules every year.

2006-04-12 [Azuri]: well they already have it to where you have to wait a few days and your bio has to be long enough i dont know whats considered long enough but i bet that helps a bit also you cant make clone houses anymore i think it might have something to do with your IP? im not sure

2006-04-12 [merihevonen]: ahah.. 0.o *doesn't know anything, rolls eyes with confusion*

2006-04-12 [Wilde Card]: Another step closer to clique. xD How long before elitsts ban the use of smilies? I'd be out the door already.

2006-04-12 [Stray Kitty]: I think it's to discourage the people that just post their picture. I have a couple clone house from when I first joined Elftown. I thought that it was just a chat site. And I've forgotten the passwords to them. I would love to get ride of the, or better yet bee able to change some of the data on them, like where I live for example.

2006-04-12 [Stray Kitty]: So under this rule this person [Mina Monster] would not be able to join. Not to point finders or anything, I just came across her in the latest logins.

2006-04-12 [Wilde Card]: No idea. What are the official rules? xD I've been here too long.

2006-04-12 [merihevonen]: well she does look like the type....  But may have a photography as a hobby (since her 3rd pic is manipulated well in my opinion) .. .so wouldn't that then give her a good reason to join?

2006-04-12 [merihevonen]: And well other thing that annoys me is that some people just put song lyrics and texts like "sonny moore is hawt"..... that pisses me off. but i guess it would be like flying cows if that would become as a rule..... and well my own page is such a perfect one.... :P oops... so who am i to preach?

2006-04-12 [Stray Kitty]: Is it against the rules to put an image in the image description? Or is it just a guideline?

2006-04-12 [Wilde Card]: I think you're allowed to. I mean, so many people use graphic banners now. It's just something so hard to judge. Who can come in, who can't. I was kinda hoping the Y! kids would find ET too geeky and they'd stay away. rofl

2006-04-13 [iippo]: There is an application-process (same one in all Heddate sites, not sure about EP, does that one have?) so you have to spell more or less properly and write enough of a description before being accepted. [Mina Monster] has joined in 2004 so that wasn't necessary back then... You can inline images in image-descriptions, but it is a guideline that asks that you might want to not do that. But it can be done. There is also an Uploading Art Rules test, but new members are not asked to take it, it's for people to be intelligent enough to test themselves. UAR Test

2006-04-15 [merihevonen]: I just took that test. Yey, I passed it.  : )

2006-04-16 [Kiddalee]: ... we propose this solution: A wiki that has the motorcycle story is made and people who would normally post the thing in their house simply link to it or put a banner up in their house. So here's the page: The Motorcycle Story

2006-04-16 [Wilde Card]: Hm, aren't these the same thing as forwards and chain letters? (ie you get the forwarded to you in your mail, but serve no purpose other than to be fowarded.) Couldn't we just petition that have this, and all similar things banned? Simpler. Make houses about the person who owns it, not about junk they find.

2006-04-16 [Gilthanas]: ill sign

2006-04-16 [Kiddalee]: That makes sense. That's a good way to get rid of all of these things, instead of just the Motorcycle Story, so we won't have to go through the same tedious petitioning process for each annoying story (there are too many!).

2006-04-16 [Stratakus]: Eventuallyit will get to that Rape one where the girl kills herself at the end. I mean. Sure it sends a message. Rape = Bad. But if that isn't already imparted in your brain by the time you're old enough to attend Elftown, serious mental problems are the only explanation I can think of.

2006-04-16 [Azuri]: jah it just get to be brain numbing when you have to see them over and over and over again even if they send a message like the rape one honestly there are so many better ways to send that message than threw a stupid little story with bad writing. they all go by one line and that drives me nuts cause it suposta be a story not a script >.< heh sorry for the ranting

2006-04-16 [Wilde Card]: Well, if you guys would like to formalise what I've said, please do. You all seem to have your heads screwed on right. =)

2006-04-16 [iippo]: I'm trying to imagine/foresee the reaction from the guards to this suggestion... When the banning of copied ASCII was discussed there was a sort of "oh dear, it can't be done, there's too much of it!" But it got done, eventually. But also, the reaction might be "why ban those, they don't harm anyone" (like stolen art harms the artist).

2006-04-16 [Wilde Card]: Well, the arguements could be as follows. ET, a community of people and experiences, or a community of mass-manufactured copy and paste demons? .. ii) Copy and paste inspires originality and creativity. Correct? Surely not. A community primarilly made for artists should reflect this. People and experiences, things to share, not to copy and paste. iii) etc ... really,if you want anything from this, it may pay to coordinate with Take ET back. (The wiki, of which I am uncertain of the details.)

2006-04-16 [Stray Kitty]: Well they're almost like chain letter in that they have a "repost this if you love someone this much" included in them. Also, because the stories have been just copied and pasted and there's nothing saying they have the permission of the orginal author, it could be considered stealing. Or plagerism, because they didn't site their sources.

2006-04-16 [iippo]: There's also the problem of "all the other plagiarised/stolen texts" like song lyrics and poetry... *yelps in frustration* Be original, people! Don't copy-paste schtuff! >.<

2006-04-16 [Stray Kitty]: I think it's okay if they say who they got it from. Like I have Pink's Stupid Girls lyrics in my diary. Because I finally found someone that shares my views on the world.

2006-04-16 [Wilde Card]: I think song lyrics are a bit more useful than the junky copy and paste stuff.

2006-04-16 [Stratakus]: "why ban those, they don't harm anyone" Well, they are both Chain Letters and also they have nothing to do with Elftown. An Elftown house is supposed to describe who you are and what you are. These coppied are just the same thing over and over and over and have nothing to do with the person who is "Describing" themselves.

2006-04-16 [Wilde Card]: We should at least propose it to Hedda and see what he says, we can refine our argument once we know his stance.

2006-04-16 [Miss.Kayree]: good idea...

2006-04-18 [Kiddalee]: They do harm stupid teenagers by supporting them in believing that it accurately describes true love or good sex or how horrible abuse is.

2006-04-18 [Azuri]: this is true most of the time the place you find these things are in the profiles of impressnable young people and they all have something to do with one or the other and all of them are crap. when i go to a page i wanna see something original, like a story or a poem they have written, not those things! I can deal with people having lyrics as long as its not the only thing there and they say who its by(btw stupid girls is a AWESOME song) and dont take it as their own

2006-04-18 [Wilde Card]: I just really think a person's house should be about them, not what they've copied and pasted. I tihnk that's what this community is about. The people.

2006-04-18 [iippo]: Hmm, trying to think what else Hedda might say so we can prepare a counter-argument... He's sometimes not easy to impress, and generally the "this harms children" -thing doesn't get very far with him, he'd just tell all the children to go to Elf12 or something. This definitely should be presented to him, since the long bio haters got their way through (now there's a restriction on the bio size because of that) as did the copied ASCII-art people (it is no longer allowed), so if the argument is well-balanced, they might listen.

2006-04-18 [Wilde Card]: Mass boycott. xD

2006-04-18 [Darth Jacein]: Yeees....

2006-04-18 [Wilde Card]: Thinking about it, does it really 'harm children'? I wasn't really thinking that was an arguement with any worth at all. Since, these days, you could argue nearly everything is 'harmful' including fantasy novels and the like. Movies and video-games, anyone?

2006-04-18 [Dark Side of the Moon]: I had to toss in my opinion also: I don't think copy and paste things actually harm kids. It does, however, make them look like they were shaped from the same cookie cutter, if you take my meaning. There's nothing original about the cut and paste stories that you find in many of the houses here. My own opinion, and this is only an opinion, is that some just want to fit in. And if by fitting in that means that they're putting the same stories into their house as anyone else, then that's what they'll do. People naturally want to belong socially, so they find a point of contact, a familiar area, and use it because there are others out there that use it also.

2006-04-18 [Dark Side of the Moon]: Thus, by finding common ground, they may also find others that are like them and make friends. However, I also think that you should be your own person. Just because everyone else's house looks like that or contains those copy and paste stories, doesn't mean yours also should. There is nothing interesting in a clone. The best way to make friends is to also put out a little info about yourself. If your entire house is nothing but a bunch of copy/paste stuff, then what's the fun in that? I think the point here may be to just urge some people to be more individual and to not just do a thing because everyone else is.

2006-04-18 [Dark Side of the Moon]: Some may think that these stories have some kind of moral point. But, we the supporters of this wiki know that those stories really just suck.

2006-04-18 [iippo]: I agree with that, [Dark Side of the Moon], but it might not be enough of grounds to rid all the houses of that story. *imagines Hedda saying "If they want to be clones, let them!"* That's why usernames like "hornySlut" and "HumongousPenis" are not all renamed in ET: the spirit is that if someone is that much of an idiot to name themselves something like that, then by all means allow everyone to see what a humongous idiot they are. :/

2006-04-18 [_habnabit]: An excellent point.

2006-04-18 [Dark Side of the Moon]: And if you can't see that they're an idiot by the stupid user names they pick then you'll know it by the stupid messages they send to you. Oyvey... :^/

2006-04-18 [_habnabit]: "stop talkin to me ur dumb"

2006-04-18 [rainbow band-aid taco box]: hi everyone!

2006-04-18 [Dark Side of the Moon]: 'Ello!

2006-04-18 [rainbow band-aid taco box]: wad up

2006-04-19 [Wilde Card]: Oh please..

2006-04-19 [Wilde Card]: Well, if Hedda is prepared to let things like this happen, it's no wonder they do. He's god here, afterall, isn't he? xD

2006-04-19 [Stray Kitty]: Why is [rainbow band-aid taco box] here at all?

2006-04-19 [Kiddalee]: Because she hates the Motorcycle Story, just like the rest of us, and this petition is specific to that, but leaves out the other Stupid Pasted Things.

2006-04-19 [Kiddalee]: I think the chain letter argument might be helpful. You know: these things are just like chain letters; the only difference is that they're cluttering up peoples' bios instead of mailboxes.

2006-04-19 [Stray Kitty]: Oops, I missed her name in the petition.

2006-04-19 [Stray Kitty]: And the pasted stuff is annoying many people instead of just one.

2006-04-19 [iippo]: I agree, that's a good argument.

2006-04-19 [Wilde Card]: It is possible he'll say "Just don't visit the houses." xD

2006-04-19 [iippo]: Yes -_- That's why those porn-poems in people's houses are still there although they're explicit material. "It's very easy not to read that stuff..." But then again, people in favour of long bios also said "well, then don't visit houses that have long bios, don't scroll down. Navigate away, press back etc..." But then the guards made a point that "we don't get that option, we have to scroll down if the house's been reported for a UAR-violation..." and there is now a lenght restriction.

2006-04-19 [Wilde Card]: I guess the bottom line is .. you're stuck. ^^

2006-04-19 [iippo]: It's still worth a try. And, imagine if these stupid pasted things get banned: then there's only those "ten million questions of doom" and "have you ever" -things left to make people clones. :D

2006-04-19 [Wilde Card]: Maybe Hedda has been blinded by the hope of wealth? Look at MySpace. I doubt they restrict copy and paste.. and they accept EVERYONE. Gone global? Hell yes. Maybe he's hoping the same will happen here.. just with a hint of fantasy.

2006-04-19 [Azuri]: god i hope it doesnt turn all myspacey(yea i have one but just to keep incontact with non idiot friends) its pretty bad on there they havent any restrictions ya kno? ya can post whatever you want

2006-04-19 [Azuri]: ::dreams of days where pastie things, ten million questions of doom and have you evers just dont exist anymore:: ah what a loafty dream >>

2006-04-19 [iippo]: No one's been blinded, and what wealth? This place is non-profit! There's not even ads like in Elfpack! :O

2006-04-19 [Azuri]: yea the only money that come out of it is the donations and thats usally used for hardware to keep the sites running if im not mistaken

2006-04-19 [iippo]: You are right. So it's not hard to imagine Hedda getting quite pissed off with people whining about things when ET's still a pretty damn good community... So this suggestion/petition has to make sense beyond the "it annoys us" -axis.

2006-04-19 [Azuri]: ::nod:: ET is a damn good community which is why im still here. Ive joined alot of communitys but NONE have ever kept me for as long as ET has and thats a good few years. well there have been suggestions theres the creativy angle, the annoys us angle, the storys are plagarized because they dont have premission from the author, umm what else was there?

2006-04-19 [Teufelsweib]: one of the reasons why random images aren't allowed is because they take up too many hard ware (then you need more time for back-ups) and the page will take so long to load for people with a slow computer... I know a copied story doesn't take that much space, but there are so many of them... I don't know if that's a good reason though.

2006-04-19 [Azuri]: hmm characters dont take up as much as a image does(image is HUGE compared to a character) but it might i duno hmm

2006-04-19 [_habnabit]: Myspace is absolutely terrible. I don't go there because I'm always bombarded by bad music and HTML/CSS that makes my browser choke.

2006-04-19 [Blasphemous Rumours]: Finally, someone who agrees with me on myspace. I hate the place. Wow, you can put music on your pages. Wonderful. That's definately a reason why everyone should join. o.o; It's tedious.

2006-04-20 [Wilde Card]: Random images aren't allowed because they are often copyrighted. Not because they take up room. There is apparently a lot of hard disk space (told this by a guard). I don't think there's a technical standpoint to argue this case on at all.

2006-04-20 [dragonflye]: Technically the reason for not allowing random images is because this is considered a community for artists. If you didn't do it, you can't put it up. There a few exceptions to that rule.

2006-04-20 [Wilde Card]: Isn't that pretty much what I said? ^^

2006-04-20 [dragonflye]: Sorta. I was kinda adding to it.

2006-04-20 [dragonflye]: Plus I didn't quite get it out the way I was thinking. I can't quite put into words what I think a lot of the time. I have a complicated thought process sometimes.

2006-04-20 [I stabbith ye]: Don't forget that it is a community for writers as well as artists!

2006-04-20 [dragonflye]: Writing is considered a form of artistry. I consider anything creative a form of art.

2006-04-20 [I stabbith ye]: Oooh okie dokie...well that is good then *nods* ^_^

2006-04-20 [dragonflye]: I don't feel too well at the moment. Being pregnant can do that to you. lol

2006-04-20 [Wilde Card]: Aww, congratulations! =)

2006-04-20 [iippo]: Even free-to-use images are against the rules in ET. Pretty much anything not done completely by an Elftowner. Which I think would be only fair to extend to these annoying paste-on stories: they may be free to use and circling the email, but they are not (hopefully) written by an Elftowner for Elftowners (if it is, I'll hunt them down and strangle them a little bit :3)

2006-04-20 [Azuri]: ::raises hand:: I will so help you with that >>

2006-04-20 [Dark Side of the Moon]: Save room for me.

2006-04-20 [Wilde Card]: A bit extreme. My suggestion is refrain from comments like that, even if it's for fun. It lessens crediblity. Okay... maybe I am taking this too seriously. ^^:

2006-04-20 [iippo]: The strangling bit is just about being very frustrated, and done completely in jest, naturally.

2006-04-20 [Wilde Card]: Do you think maybe one day we will have to accept copy and pasties as another nuance of ET?

2006-04-20 [iippo]: Hope not. It would mean less originality, less creativity and more Elfpackishness in here. Also it could get risky to put anything like poetry in your bio, because kids might think it's another "kewl" thing to copy-paste without the owner's permission (and soon it'd be impossible to prove that you did write it yourself, when it's in everyone's house without credit).

2006-04-20 [Wilde Card]: Bwah, see how it lured a good arugment out of you? ^^ Nothing to it! =)

2006-04-21 [dragonflye]: I asked [Hedda] about making it a rule. He basically said no.

2006-04-21 [Seamus Schwathe]: Of course not! First, although the petition is filling up rapidly, we still don't even have 1% of the active population's signatures. Second, I think it's an automatic answer because he's probably deluged with petty complaints. So, when we get several signatures (i.e. probably over 500, to show how common this belief is), we should probably go to the Assembly or Council and ask. Meanwhile, we don't have near enough people on the list.

2006-04-21 [Darth Jacein]: Seamus is right..

2006-04-21 [The Purity of Brutality]: Would anyone get mad if I removed all of the comments next to the signiatures? All that space could be used for more signiatures.

2006-04-21 [Darth Jacein]: i wouldnt..

2006-04-21 [Kiddalee]: There are too many people to ask, but I don't think they'd mind if everyone's comments were removed. You should also put a blurb above the list saying "Please do not add a comment next to your signature. It wastes space." Or something.

2006-04-21 [Stray Kitty]: You could also say that this is not a membership page, but a petition. And if they really want to have their name next to a comment they could join A guy and a girl...

2006-04-21 [Stray Kitty]: Or another related wiki.

2006-04-21 [Seamus Schwathe]: ...in addition to signing this one. That way they don't get scared off.

2006-04-21 [Stray Kitty]: I cannot believe I just deleted all those comments. It looks so much nicer now.

2006-04-21 [The Purity of Brutality]: Someone beat me to it, score!

2006-04-21 [Stray Kitty]: Crud. I could've had someone else do it!

2006-04-21 [Seamus Schwathe]: Hope you don't mind, I thought it could use some emphasis...

2006-04-21 [Stray Kitty]: It's okay. I just got rid of the last comments and added some spaces.

2006-04-21 [Stray Kitty]: Someone should go out and find an effective way of advertising. How about a banner.

2006-04-21 [dragonflye]: I don't have time to make one but it sounds like a great idea to me.

2006-04-21 [dragonflye]: Oh and everybody put a link to this in their moods!

2006-04-21 [Stray Kitty]: That's a good idea. I don't have time to make a banner either.

2006-04-21 [Seamus Schwathe]: It's not the greatest, but will it do for now? <img:http://elftown.lysator.liu.se/img/photo/79514_1145592478.jpg>

2006-04-21 [Wilde Card]: I wouldn't worry about making the banner perfect, you'd only be glamourising the story. That's fine. =)

2006-04-21 [dragonflye]: It's kinda hard to read. I'd change the colors from white to red or something like that to make it easier to read. Just a suggestion though. Make multiples for people to choose from.

2006-04-21 [Wilde Card]: I'd make it a bit smaller, and more rectangular. Less chance it'll endup with people having to scroll to see the whole thing.

2006-04-21 [Seamus Schwathe]: ...better? <img:http://elftown.lysator.liu.se/img/photo/79514_1145628531.jpg>

2006-04-21 [Wilde Card]: We could make another page to hold all the banners people are likely to make? Let people select whichever one they'd like?

2006-04-21 [Dark Side of the Moon]: I think that would be a good idea!

2006-04-21 [SassySwede]: I think it would be fun if we made a contest out of it...

2006-04-21 [Kiddalee]: And then get the contest advertised on Mainstreet!

2006-04-22 [Seamus Schwathe]: ...which would make great advertisement for the petition anyways.

2006-04-22 [Kiddalee]: Aah. You're getting it. ^_^

2006-04-22 [Stray Kitty]: Alright. That's a good idea.

2006-04-22 [Wilde Card]: Haha, there we go! =)

2006-04-24 [Kiddalee]: So who's building the contest wiki page?

2006-04-24 [Stray Kitty]: Anyone want to?

2006-04-24 [Sad Lonely Angel]: conest of what?

2006-04-24 [Stray Kitty]: To make a banner for this wiki page. It's an advertising compaign.

2006-04-24 [Sad Lonely Angel]: ahh, i see

2006-04-26 [Kiddalee]: I nominate [Seamus Schwathe].

2006-04-26 [Stray Kitty]: I'll second that.

2006-04-26 [Sad Lonely Angel]: same here

2006-04-26 [Wilde Card]: Well, looks like everything is moving along nicely. I'll stop watching the wiki and I'll leave you guys to it. Good luck!

2006-04-26 [Sad Lonely Angel]: okie day

2006-04-26 [Kiddalee]: See you, [Wilde Card].

2006-04-27 [Stray Kitty]: So who wants to tell Seamus?

2006-04-27 [kittykittykitty]: surely seamus would be the illogical choice, considering people aren't supposed to enter their own contests, but his would be the first entry ~_^

2006-04-27 [Lady Chaos]: People can enter their own contests if it is the voter's choice

2006-04-27 [Sad Lonely Angel]: yeah

2006-04-27 [kittykittykitty]: voters say yeah! it's agreed ^_^

2006-04-27 [Sad Lonely Angel]: YAY

2006-04-28 [Stray Kitty]: Does any one know how to go about getting the contest together?

2006-04-28 [Kiddalee]: Who said he had to enter? But if it's possible for him to, anyways, that's cool. Umm... have a look at Contest Guidelines for instructions on building a contest. [Stray Kitty], maybe you could run it if not Seamus?

2006-04-28 [Stray Kitty]: Err... I'll need help with the wiki polls and I'm not sure how to get it on to the mainstreet. But I'll create the wiki.

2006-04-29 [Amanda Kaye!]: No offense, but why do you people care so much over what people say in their houses? I've seen it in numorous houses, but what is stopping you from scrolling down past it or going to another page? No one said you had to read it everytime you saw it.

2006-04-29 [Azuri]: because this community is all about creativeness and having the same thing over and over in every house is not creative?

2006-04-29 [Kiddalee]: And a lot of the people who have these things in their houses don't have anything else, so it's no use scrolling down past it to find something more useful.

2006-04-29 [Kiddalee]: YaY [Stray Kitty]!

2006-04-29 [iippo]: And it also does break copyright, since none of the people who have it in their house has actually written it.
